Economic and Global Literacy

Since 1989, The UPS Foundation has committed more than $26.4 million addressing the variety of challenges presented by illiteracy. Initially focused on adult literacy and later on workforce and family literacy, today the foundation builds on UPS’s knowledge to enable global commerce by teaching people how to effectively compete by enhancing their economic and global literacy.

The goal of our current grant making is enhancing the economic literacy in communities through programming that teaches the fundamentals of free enterprise and the foundations of economic education. In addition to helping people around the world learn the basics of entrepreneurship and self-sufficiency, The UPS Foundation will also support emerging entrepreneurs through grants to innovative micro enterprise organizations who teach the business skills necessary for success in today’s global economy.

Economic empowerment is a pathway for success. It begins with an understanding of the fundamentals of economics, personal finance, and the principles of free enterprise. In addition, as all people and communities become increasingly connected to the global economy, it is more important than ever for current and future generations to be “globally literate.” The UPS Foundation supports programs that teach these basic economic principles.  Learn more.
